Control of Seed-Borne Fungi by Selected Essential Oils

Seed-borne pathogens reduce the quality and cause infections at various growth stages of horticultural crops. Some best-known are fungi genus Alternaria, that destructive vegetable other crop diseases, resulting in significant yield losses. Over several years, much attention has been paid to environmentally-friendly solutions for disease management regarding environmental damage caused by chemicals. For example, plant extracts essential oils could be alternative sources biopesticides help control seed-borne pathogens. This study aimed evaluate oils’ influence on Alternaria spp. The microbiological contamination seeds (carrot, tomato, onion) was determined agar-plate method. impact evaluated mixing them with PDA medium different amounts. hydrodistillation used extraction thyme hyssop oils, common juniper oil purchased. investigation revealed highest carrot tomato fungi. Furthermore, antifungal effect achieved using 200–1000 μL L−1 oil. Meanwhile, investigated differed from low moderate. Overall, expressed a high potential fungal biocontrol application formulations.
